February 22-23 Saturday and Sunday Camp Mihaska Hiking and Mountain Biking

      Cost: $30.00

      Advanced registration: required by February 15

 

Shake off your Cabin fever with a weekend hike or Mountain Bike trip. Take I-44 to Bourbon Missouri, 72 miles Southwest of St. Louis, then drive 2 miles south of Bourbon on Highway N to Camp Mihaska on Saturday morning. Check in and pick your hike, Camp Mihaska (light) or Meramec State Park (heavy hiking). Another option is Mountain Biking on the Berryman Trails. Remember, it’s always warmer in the woods! Dinner Saturday night and breakfast Sunday morning at the Yesteryear Coffee Shoppe nearby. All this--overnight lodging and two meals plus a fireside sing along on Saturday night for only $30.00.

May 3        Saturday                           Tour De Stooges 2003

      Cost:    $12.00 for HI-USA members and students, faculty and staff of McKendree College, $15.00 for other adult riders, and $7.00 for children under 12 and non-riders

 

Enjoy Illinois country roads. Register 9 to 10:30 a.m. at McKendree College, Melvin Price Convocation Center, on Alton Street, Lebanon, Illinois. Five rural routes range from 13-62 miles. After ride, enjoy an all-you-can-eat buffet, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Then watch Three Stooges films for spring-time hilarity. For more details SAG service provided by The Cyclery (Edwardsville)

 

May 24 & 25     Saturday & Sunday   Pere Marquette Overnight (Memorial Day Weekend)

      Cost:    $15 per person includes campsite and dinner Saturday night. There are two cabins available that hold six people each. First come first served on these cabins for $35 per person total.

Join in a Memorial Day weekend for a ride to remember. The ride will start at Lafayette Park in St. Louis, ending the first day of bicycling at the beautiful Pere Marquette State Park in Illinois. Along the way riders will cruise the Downtown Riverfront, cross the mighty Mississippi River over the Chain of Rocks Bridge and enjoy lunch in the historic city of Alton, Illinois. Riders will then journey on to Pere Marquette. Scenic views, great company and 55 miles of relatively flat riding makes this tour ideal for all ages and abilities. Riders will return to Lafayette Park along the same route on Sunday adding another 55 miles.

 

Saturday night includes bonfire, barbecued burgers and hot dogs. SAG support and transportation for your camping gear will be provided.

June 15-20 Sunday to Friday              Cycle Across Missouri (CAM)

This annual ride across the beautiful state of Missouri starts on Father's day and ends near St. Louis on the last day of spring. Tour the small towns and scenic countryside of the “Show Me” state in a 400-mile loop. Stay overnight at high school or college gymnasia or camp in your own tent. Fee includes S.A.G., rest stops, camping and gymnasium accommodations, maps, marked route, breakfast and dinner.

Register at Eckert’s in Belleville, Illinois any time between 8:30 & 10:30 a.m. Enjoy rural countryside as you pedal 14, 22, or 41 miles. August 16-17    Saturday-Sunday       39th Annual Moonlight Ramble®

Thirty nine and holding! Join us in this St. Louis tradition! The Moonlight Ramble® rolls again. Registration is on Chestnut in front of Soldiers’ Memorial, downtown and opens at 10:00pm Saturday night. Ride begins at 12:01am Sunday morning. The route is a closely guarded secret until the night of the ride but this much can be leaked out now. The route will be between ten and twenty miles, you will be able to see some exciting and beautiful sights around St. Louis, and you will be in the company of 10,000 or so other riders. Mark your calendars now!

 

August 30 & 31                                 Ride Saturday or Sunday           Autumn Apple (Pie) Tour

Register at Mills Apple Farm on Pocahontas Rd. near Marine, Illinois any time between 8:30 & 10:30 a.m. Ride 13, 17, or 38 miles through Illinois countryside. While there or in advance, order a tasty pie (618-887-4732). New for ’03! Win cash prizes in a drawing (for registered riders only) on both days at Mills Apple Farm at 2:00 p.m. ($100 first place, $50 second place, $25 for both 3rd and 4th place.)  September 28   Sunday                      Natalie G. Kekeisen Flat-As-A-Pancake Century Ride

      Cost:    $12.00 HI-USA members; $15.00 non-members, includes lunch

 

Register in New Baden Park any time between 6:30 & 8:30 a.m. Arrows on the road and maps guide riders on a mostly flat Century of 100 miles (options, 40 or 60 miles). All loops end in New Baden where lunch is provided. SAG support by The Cyclery (Edwardsville).

 

Natalie Kekeisen was a long time HI-USA member and trip leader. An avid cyclist, she road over 5,000 miles each year, well into her fifties. She led weekly rides and planned CATSUP (Cycle Around the State Universities and Parks). CATSUP became CAMP (Cycle Around Missouri’s Parks) and is now CAM (Cycle Across Missouri). The first of six CATSUP week-long rides was in 1983. Natalie developed several century rides for the Gateway Council. The Flat-As-A-Pancake Century bears her name. She encouraged many riders to set and reach new mileage goals and to become ride leaders themselves.

 

Proceeds from the Natalie G. Kekeisen Memorial Flat-As-A-Pancake Century go for leadership training and hostel development to help realize our goal of opening a new hostel in the St. Louis area.

October 31-November 2                   Friday-Sunday   Camp Mihaska 100 Weekend

     Cost:     $49.00 per person if you choose to stay in a room with four beds. If you sleep in your own tent, $39.00.

     Advanced registration: required

 

Enjoy a weekend of bicycle riding, hiking, and canoeing in the Ozarks just when the leaves are turning. Drive I-44 to Bourbon, MO 72 miles SW of St. Louis. Then drive 2 miles south of Bourbon on Highway N to the Camp. Bike fifty miles on Saturday (with a no-SAG Century Option). Then bike 40 miles on Sunday. Routes cover part of the old Route 66. Fee includes breakfast Saturday and Sunday, and dinner and entertainment on Saturday night. Camp Mihaska is a Salvation Army facility and includes a new, rustic, dining hall. Rooms, dorms, and campsites are all available on the 800 acre site. Fee covers road arrows, maps, SAG support, lodging, meals and entertainment.

 

Mix and match your weekend. Bike one day, hike the next OR canoe one day and bike the next. Bike routes are beautiful, low traffic roads. Hiking options include the Camp, Meramec State Park, or Berryman Trails. Canoeing on the Meramec River, with catch and release fishing is also available.
