St. Louis Attractions for All the Family

  • St. Louis Gateway Arch – whenever you think about big attractions, this is one of the biggest of them all and can be seen for miles around. This fantastic structure towers an amazing 630 feet above the Mississippi River. You can ride the passenger tram to the observation tower high above the Mississippi (if you dare) and there are some great museum exhibitions telling you all about it. It was built in the early 1960’s so it’s stood the test of time, even withstanding in the Missouri winds.
  • Soulard Farmers Market – even shopping for groceries is a pretty special experience in St. Louis. The Soulard Farmers Market is one of the oldest public markets which still trades in the United States and is full of fresh, locally grown vegetables not to mention the wonderful meats, cheeses, flowers and baked products. Why not treat yourself and travel back in time to how good food used to taste in the olden days, before preservatives and plastic wrapping.
  • The Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis has the largest collection of mosaic art in the world, with more than 41 million pieces in over 7,000 different colors. The story has it that a father and son team spent almost 80 years creating the masterpiece, probably didn’t even have weekends off. Whether you’re more interested in the historic value of this showpiece, the artistic brilliance, are deeply religious (you can attend mass daily) or just like looking at amazing stuff, you really should go.
  • St. Louis is often referred to as the brewing capitol of America (among other things) and is home to the world famous Anheuser-Busch company who have their headquarters right here in St. Louis. You can meet some of the famous Budweiser Clydesdales (they’re stabled right here and you can go in to see them in their century old stables) as well as touring the Brew house and the packaging plant. Find out just what goes into one of the most famous brews in the world, you might even be able to start brewing your own at home, but you’d better not tell anybody.
  • Citygarden St. Louis – described as an "urban oasis in the heart of downtown St. Louis," Citygarden is well worth a visit. There’s a giant statue of Pinocchio (with strings) and, among other things, a wonderful splash plaza which shoots pulsating jets of water a full six feet into the air in a variety of patterns, and at night time it’s all lit up. The water simply dances before your very eyes and is a pretty amazing attraction in itself.
